Exploring the Hundred Years of Dajia River History
Dajia River has abundant water sources. From upstream to downstream, the terrain and eco-system are rich and diverse. It is te most important river in Central Taiwan. The Sinotech Foundation is now compiling the specialty book The Hundred Years of Dajia River History. Taking advantage of this lower COVID-19 rate span, Chairman Tseng led the writers and water resource experts from Sinotech and NTU to explore Dajia River in order to further Dajia River hydrology and geography, power supply, roads, agriculture and forestry’s impact on region’s economic and cultural development, hoping to provide more materials for the book and as references for future engineering cases through on-site exploring and member discussion.
On the first day, they visited Lanyang Power Plant in Sanxing, Yilan County. After briefing, they entered Dajia River’s upstream from Central Cross-lsland Highway’s Yilan Branch. The terrain is well developed. Near Sihyuan Wind Gap is Lanyang River’s stream piracy point on Dajia River. To the south of fault valley is Dajia River’s source, and to its north is Lanyang River’s source. Testament to nature’s incredible work. Afterward, they visited Wuling Farm to learn mountainside forestry development and then onto Taiwan Salmon Eco-Center and Restoration House, to further understanding Taiwan salmon’s restoration and habitat eco-system, ending the day’s trip.

The next day morning, they first visited Fushoushan Farm, after learning high-altitude cold temperature agriculture, they continue to move along Dajia River. After enjoying the scenic Jiayang alluvial fan, they reached Techi Reservoir. Techi Reservoir is located at Dajia River upstream. Its curvature is beautiful and is Taiwan’s first high arch dam, a key multi-purpose dam in Central Taiwan.
In the afternoon, they entered Kukuan from Central Cross-lsland Highway’s short cut, learning 921 Earthquake and post-disaster regional development. Afterward, they reached Bailun, visiting Dajia River Power Plant. The group was briefed by assistant plant director and the interchange was very enthusiastic. Dajia River Power Plant was switched to eco-friendly power plant. Under the assistance from Taipower and everyone involved, becoming an ecological park integrating forest, water resources, electrical power. It is deeply admired by locals. Then they move onto electrical power museum, Taiwan infrastructure archives, and Ma-an Dam Eco-park. At last, they visited Bailun Canal Park. Members all felt the trip was fruitful, a perfect ending to the visit.
